Red Roses
These are the roses that most people already know about. They symbolize love and romance. These are roses that should be given to show your lover how much you value them. They are traditionally given to someone for whom you feel a romantic love -- not the same love that you feel for your mother, father, or siblings.
Pink Roses
These are similar to red roses, but are often given to show admiration instead of love. These feelings are close, but they are different. They could also be paired with red roses to show both love and admiration.
Yellow Roses
These are meant to show joyfulness and friendship. They are best to give to a friend who has been with you all your life, whom you feel a close bond with. They do not imply that you think that bond should turn romantic, but just that you are happy to have it. They could also be used to celebrate a joyful occasion.
White Roses
These commonly show purity or a sense of innocence. This is why they are used at weddings. They can emphasis the purity of the new relationship that is being formed and show how special that relationship is. They are also just used to show a happiness for beginnings -- a marriage is the beginning of a new life that two people will share.
Orange Roses
These have a certain powerful energy about them. The bright color represents this energy, showing how enthusiastic you are about a person or a relationship. These are used to show a burning passion that is full of heat and desire. They show that you want the person very badly. They could be paired with other roses to show love as well as desire, but you should keep in mind that they represent a very intense feeling on your part.
Lavender Roses
These have been used traditionally to express that you have fallen in love at first sight. They show enchantment and sudden desire that has come about like an epiphany. They can be given to someone you just met to show how they have opened your eyes in a very sudden fashion. They bring out that aspect of true love for a new person that is so beloved when it is found in fairy tales. |
